Description
The Bead Marines were a feasibility experiment I was doing to see what
materials are possible to be used with GW bitz.
As I was running out of plastic legs, I used either molded green stuff
epoxy, or sculpted and superglued the tree sprue materials to make
rudimentary legs. These types of legs I have tried with previous chapters for "squad
stuffers" or bulking troops. Later after I ran out of spare torsos, I
experimented with various other objects, but I finally settled on the use
of plastic Necklace beads from the craft store. As you can see here, all
the minis use bead torsos and legs mostly of green stuff. The bases are
from steel electric circuit box knock-outs.
The Blood Angels captain was a character mini made from a Bead, green
stuff, steel disc, and various GW Blood Angels Bitz. The cape was made from
carefully-folded clear plastic packaging material. I went through further
steps of using neo magnets for the shoulders and weapons arms. It is in
all honesty a semi-passible character mini. Bead marines are probably
optimum for just plain troop minis.
So guys, If you have lots of excess bits, no need to throw them away. Just bulk up
your squads or reserve troops with bead marines. These are not intended to
replace official GW minis, but to maximize the consumption of a Modeler's
or converter's excess bitz pile. You probably wont be able to use them in
GW-sponsored tournaments, but at least they shouldn't be a problem for a
game between two friends.
